Donald Trump Expands His Threats to Iran As Deadline Approaches

As the deadline for a potential deal nears, Donald Trump has escalated his threats against Iran, warning of sweeping military action if Tehran does not comply. The growing tensions come after Iran rejected a proposed 45-day ceasefire and instead pushed for a permanent end to the war.

The U.S president has significantly broadened his earlier warnings, now threatening to target critical infrastructure across Iran. “The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night,” he said, emphasizing that his Tuesday 8 p.m. EDT deadline would not be extended further.

He also issued a direct warning tied to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, demanding Iran reopen it to global shipping. The waterway is one of the most crucial oil transit routes in the world, and disruptions have already led to mass disruptions.

Donald Trump doubled down on his stance, stating, “Every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night,” and that power plants would be “burning, exploding and never to be used again.” When asked about potential war crimes, he responded, “No, not at all.”

Iran, however, rejected the ceasefire proposal and reiterated its position through diplomatic channels. “We only accept an end of the war with guarantees that we won’t be attacked again,” Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour told The Associated Press. He added that Iran no longer trusts the U.S. after previous strikes during negotiations.

Despite the heated rhetoric, backchannel talks appear to be ongoing. A regional official confirmed to the outlet that discussions with both sides have not collapsed. Trump himself acknowledged that negotiations continue, even as tensions rise. Meanwhile, Israel intensified pressure by striking a major petrochemical facility and reportedly killing a senior intelligence official linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

International concern has grown over the potential targeting of civilian infrastructure. As the deadline looms, the situation remains volatile, with both military escalation and diplomatic resolution still on the table.
