Pope Leo Wishes ‘Woe to Those Who Manipulate Religion’ on Heels of Donald Trump Spat

It seems like Pope Leo just threw some major shade at Donald Trump. This comes amid the pontiff’s ongoing feud with the president, which initially began over their differing views on the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.

Pope Leo XIV says some drag “that which is sacred into darkness and filth”

“Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth, ” the Pope said in a post on X today.

Despite the hashtags which suggest otherwise, plenty of social media users believe the pope’s comments are a dig at Trump. As for why that is? Well, it’s all to do with a controversial image the president uploaded to Truth Social earlier this week … and ultimately deleted following widespread backlash.

After sharing a lengthy post on Truth Social attacking the pope, the president shared an AI-generated image of himself resembling Jesus. In the image, Trump was dressed as a biblical figure and had orbs of golden light coming from his hands, which he used to heal a sick man. The picture did not go down well with his fans or critics, and he removed it a few hours later.

Nonetheless, that has done little to dampen the president’s beef with the pontiff. But not everyone thinks Pope Leo should be engaging in the drama.

“I’m Catholic, but do not get involved in politics. This is not your remit,” X user @Jaudner said in response to the pope’s most recent post. “Stay out of politics. And mind your own business when it comes to Iran,” agreed @gghamari.

“I’m an atheist, and I love this Pope!” said @colinabwallace on the flip side. “A good man stands behind his beliefs and principles, and he does this with conviction and bravery.”
