Joey Fatone discovered a startling secret about one of his bandmates in the most uncomfortable way possible. The baritone singer from NSYNC was the first person to find out about Lance Bass being gay. Lance hadn’t shared this publicly with the bestselling boy band during their days together.
It turns out Joey stumbled upon this news quite literally. That’s one of the revelations audiences are discovering in a new docuseries.
Lance Bass was found with a guy “straddled on top of him”
It’s a moment Joey might never be able to erase from his memory. In a clip shared by USA Today, the Dancing with the Stars runner-up mentioned how the band all went back to Lance’s place one time after a night out. In the wee hours of the morning, Joey went to Lance’s room and didn’t find him there. He then went to Lance’s office, where he found him just sitting there with a guy “straddled on top of him.” This reveal was made during an episode of the series Boy Band Confidential this week.
While it might have initially been a jaw-dropping moment, both Lance and Joey seemed to take it all in stride. Joey says that he apologized for walking in on him. He then noted how Lance’s mother was going to kill him. This got a rise out of Lance, who responded, “Oh, please. I don’t care.” Joey was asked by Lance to keep this secret to himself, and he agreed. Lance wound up coming out in 2006.
Lance married Michael Turchin in 2014, and the couple welcomed twins in 2021. Joey and the band were massive superstars in the late 90s and early 2000s with multiple top 10 hits. There had been talks of a reunion tour with the band. That was reportedly “dead in the water,” though according to an insider, last November. There were discussions about them going on tour for the first time since 2002.
