Even those on opposite ends of the political spectrum can find common ground. That’s what New York City’s mayor has done in his previous discussions with Donald Trump. Zohran Mamdani has been running New York City for just over 100 days, becoming the first Muslim and Asian American mayor in the city’s history. He and the POTUS have not always seen eye to eye on certain issues, but according to Zohran, they have “one place of agreement.”
The NYC Mayor and President Trump “both love New York City”
You see the slogan on merchandise all over the Big Apple, and it’s perhaps the biggest thing Zohran and the President agree on: I Love New York. In an interview with CBS Mornings, the NYC mayor said that he and the POTUS “both love New York City.” The mayor says he’s had many talks with the President since winning won his 2025 election. The President was born and raised in New York, while Zohran’s family settled in the city after immigrating from Uganda.
Zohran is a Democrat, the opposite of President Trump, who is a Republican. Even though they have different political ideologies, Zohran says that he and the President feel “the better the city does, the better we feel.” In November, Zohran visited the White House. Among the strangest things to come out of his meeting with the POTUS was the President reportedly copying the mayor’s hairstyle.
One of the many things those two don’t agree on is the Iran war. Zohran has said that, politically, economically, and morally, the war is wrong. The President has said that the war had to happen. Zohran adds that he and President Trump are very honest about their disagreements. The President’s foreign policy is another area in which New York’s mayor is strongly opposed to.
