Katy Perry’s Six-Fingered Gloves at Met Gala Sparks Fan Theories

Katy Perry arrived at the 2026 Met Gala knowing exactly how to get people talking, and all it took was her six-fingered gloves. On May 4, Perry returned to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the first time since 2022 and celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Costume Art,” with the dress code “Fashion is Art,” taking that brief in a way only she would.

In that, the singer wore a fencing-style mask and a white gown. But what stood out the most was when Perry flashed her hands, revealing that her glove had six fingers, prompting fans to speculate what that meant.

Katy Perry stuns fans wearing six-fingered gloves to Met Gala 2026

Katy Perry’s 2026 Met Gala look, including her gloves, looked straight out of a performance. The “Teenage Dream” hitmaker wore a structured white Stella McCartney gown with a straight neckline, open sides, a full skirt, and a long train with edges that appeared dark and burned. She paired it with matching opera gloves and a silver-and-white headpiece by Miodrag Guberinic that covered her face almost completely. Perry first kept the mask shut, then opened it to reveal her makeup.

However, it was the six-finger glove that garnered most attention, with fans beginning to guess what it meant. Some saw it as another surreal fashion stunt, and others thought it was part of the mask and the sci-fi feel of the outfit. But various posts on X (formerly Twitter) speculated that Perry used the six-finger glove as a nod to AI-generated images of her at past Met Galas.

Besides, ELLE reported that she worked with an artist to create renderings of her look before she arrived, adding to the joke. A representative for Perry told Vogue that her 2026 Met Gala headpiece was “designed to be a literal and symbolic reflection that invites the observer to consider that their perception of others can mirror their own internal world, and conversely mask truth.” This only goes on to show that she built her look around identity and representation.
