Dave Chappelle‘s comedy show on Sunday night reportedly featured a surprise appearance from Kanye West, who got a standing ovation. This reflected the enduring strength of the latter’s fan following despite his controversial status. It also demonstrated the longstanding bond and friendship between the two, which dates back to the early 2000s.
Kanye West reportedly made appearance at Dave Chappelle show
Dave Chappelle reportedly brought Kanye West onstage during his Sunday night show at The Comedy Store, West Hollywood. TMZ reported, citing a source, that the rapper appeared at the very end of Chappelle’s gig, but did not perform. The outlet added that the comedian completed a full set, during which phones weren’t allowed.
They further stated that after bringing West onstage, he roasted the latter, saying he “lost more money than I’ve ever made.” Notably, this is a reference to the musician having suffered a huge hit to his fortune in 2022 and losing his billionaire status after brands like Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga terminated their partnerships with him in the wake of his antisemitic comments and hateful remarks.
TMZ further shared that the crowd was in “complete awe” and cheered “loudly” as West entered the stage. They also revealed that he greeted and shook hands with nearby fans. “He got a full standing ovation as he joined Dave,” the outlet elaborated. Sometime after this, the pair walked off the stage together, while the crowd applauded them.
Chappelle and West share a long history harking back to when the latter wasn’t a full-fledged superstar. The former booked the latter for a musical guest appearance on The Dave Chappelle Show in 2003. Back then, the comedian knew that West had the potential to become a star, which he admitted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2014. A year later, West appeared in Chappelle’s documentary, Block Party.
Moreover, the comedian has supported West through trying times. For instance, in 2020, after the latter shared concerning tweets alleging his wife at the time, Kim Kardashian, and her mother, Kris Jenner, were trying to “lock him up,” Chappelle flew to West’s home in Wyoming to check on him.
The latter was grateful and expressed it on X (formerly Twitter). “THANK YOU DAVE FOR HOPPING ON A JET TO COME SEE ME DOING WELL DAVE YOU ARE A GOD SEND AND A TRUE FRIEND ALL LOVE,” he wrote (via People).
