When news broke that Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula’s marriage had broken down, it did not come as a surprise to long-time Summer House viewers who had seen their struggles play out across the seasons. Kyle, however, just admitted that he was somewhat shocked by their split.
Kyle thought he and Amanda were in a “better place”
To recap, Kyle and Amanda have pretty much been an item since the early days of Summer House. After dating for several years, they went on to tie the knot in September 2021. But in recent seasons, cracks in their romance were evident, and in January, they announced their separation on socials.
As viewers learned in this week’s episode, the pair were going to couples therapy in the lead-up to all that. But Kyle admitted in a confessional he was blindsided to find out Amanda was sharing details of their counselling with co-star Ciara Miller … and even more blindsided to find out she was considering calling time on their marriage.
In their conversation, Ciara divulged that she had met with Amanda “right after” their most recent therapy session. “She was, like, happy to go and happy to be able to, like, just finally say everything,” Ciara told him.
She then pointed out that the pair “live on top of each other” and so a physical separation might be a good idea. To that, Kyle said it was “scary” to find out Amanda was “receptive” to the suggestion.
“I’m kinda shocked,” Kyle said after chatting to Ciara. “The fact that there’s separation conversations happening within our friend group, unbeknownst to me, while we’re trying to put our best foot forward in therapy, is disheartening.”
“Now this feels like there’s an elephant in the room,” he went on. “I’m second-guessing what we’re doing.”
