Jaafar Jackson Called Out by Rebecca Black Over 2011 Kanye West Comment

American singer-songwriter Rebecca Black took a dig at Jaafar Jackson over the 2011 Kanye West VMA nod. Black responded to Jackson’s 15-year-old tweet on May 10. Fans remember West’s infamous 2009 MTV VMAs moment, where the rapper interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to praise Beyoncé. Jackson recently headlined the record-breaking biopic Michael, based on his late uncle.

Singer Rebecca Black takes a playful jab at Jaafar Jackson’s 2011 Kanye West VMA nod

Rebecca Black clapped back at Jaafar Jackson’s 2011 Kanye West VMA nod. For those unversed, on March 20, 2011, Jackson tweeted, “Roses are red, violets are blue, if Rebecca Black wins ANY awards, Kanye, you know what to do.” Fifteen years later, the tweet caught Black’s eye, who cheekily responded, “alright but u were fierce in michael tho.” The tweet has since garnered 67K likes, 3K reposts, 2.9K bookmarks, and 321 comments.

For those not in the loop, Black had released her debut teen-pop single titled “Friday” in 2011. She sang about her daily morning routine and her excitement for the upcoming weekend. Unsurprisingly, Black was heavily criticized for the use of auto-tune and for a lack of sincere effort (via Entertainment Weekly).

However, over time, fans have come to remember the song fondly due to nostalgia, and it has since grown into a beloved internet meme. Jaafar hoped that if Black won any awards for “Friday,” Kanye West would interrupt her acceptance speech as he did to Swift.

Unsurprisingly, fans are bewildered by this sudden interaction between Black and Jackson. One fan commented, “Why are we digging up old Jaafar tweets when he was like 15 lol. Being famous sucks.” A second fan wrote, “Girl, let’s not act like ‘Friday’ was a masterpiece. Also, you’re gonna pick a fight for a tweet that’s from 2011?? I get that’s the last time you were relevant, but damn.”

A third fan penned, “Girl, leave that man alone!! Why are you digging up old tweets like you really took your time to scroll!! We don’t be starting no hate here, girl. Leave it alone.” Shortly after, Black posted, “Guys, I’m just having fun after catching a literal decade-old stray. Happy Mother’s Day.”
