Savannah Guthrie to host ‘Wordle’ show

Savannah Guthrie and Jimmy Fallon announced that they are bringing a Wordle game show to life for NBC. The duo took centre stage during Monday’s broadcast of Today. Fallon excitedly revealed, “I have a big announcement to make. We have been developing Wordle as a game show for the past two-and-a-half years with The New York Times. It’s official that we are making a Wordle game show with our host, Savannah Guthrie.”

Continuing further, Guthrie remarked, “We have been holding this secret between us for a long time now that we are going to make Wordle a game show. We found out in February that we got picked up. I just want to say a quick thank you to NBC, to Jimmy and his production company, The New York Times, and Studio Universal. When everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you.’ And Hollywood is a really tough business, as you know, and I didn’t expect that. And I just want to say, thank you. It means so much to me.”

Fallon said on a closing note, “We can’t do it without you. We need you, bud. You’re so good, and it’s so fun. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. It’s fantastic” (via Fox News). Notably, as per an official description from NBC, Guthrie is an avid Wordle player herself.

Players will team up in squads to solve five-letter word puzzles in a high-octane competition for the ultimate cash prize. The Wordle game show has launched an open casting call, and production will begin later this year. The official air date is yet to be announced (via Variety).
