The video is from a think-tank event in Toronto, where the former American President greeted the Canadian Prime Minister and his wife. Obama was reportedly in town to give a keynote address at a gala for Canada 2020.
Numerous conspiracy theories emerged around this meeting.

President Donald Trump’s supporters kick-started a series of conspiracy theories about former President Barack Obama meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at a think-tank event in Toronto.
Obama, who was in town to deliver a keynote address at a gala for Canada 2020, a progressive think-tank that advocates for inclusivity, was seen greeting the Prime Minister and his wife at the event.
Obama and Carney have known each other since 2008.
But this short clip had quite an interesting interpretation among the MAGA crowd. Many shared the short clip on social media platforms like X and expressed their concerns and conspiracy theories.
“Why is Barack Hussein Obama meeting with world leaders while President Trump is in office? This is a coup,” one user wrote, sharing the clip of Obama shaking Carney’s hand. “His seditious behavior continues,” another user added to this.
Yet another user wrote, “What the hell is Obama up to? Hmmm….more subterfuge? It can’t be good for the US.” Another user added to this, “Obama is a clear and present danger to our country. Why can’t charges be brought against him for undermining our president and country? He is clearly and transparently up to no good… My WW2 101st Airborne dad is rolling in his grave.”
The outcry from the MAGA crowd comes around a year after the controversial Donald Trump accused Obama and his top administration officials of “treasonous” behavior.
Many users slammed these conspiracy theories on X.
