Tom Kane, the actor who voiced roles in Star Wars and The Powerpuff Girls, has passed away at 64. His talent agency, Galactic Productions, confirmed Kane’s death in a statement posted to Facebook.
“Today we say goodbye to Tom Kane — a legendary voice actor whose work shaped the childhoods and imaginations of millions around the world,” it read. “From his unforgettable performances in ‘Star Wars’ to countless animated series, documentaries and games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humor and heart to every role he touched. His voice became part of our lives, our memories, and the stories we carry with us,” the statement added.
The statement closed with, “Though his voice may now be silent, the characters, stories, and love he gave to the world will live on forever. Rest in peace, Tom Kane. Thank you for everything. May the Force be with you, always.”
The announcement prompted an outpouring of grief on social media. One fan shared, “Rest in peace Tom Kane… one of my favorite professors/father figures & Jedi Grand Master.” “Sad day. May he rest in peace,” echoed another. “This is absolutely heartbreaking ,” commented a saddened fan.
Across his decades-long career, Tom Kane voiced iconic roles, including Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He also played Professor Utonium on Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls from 2016 to 2019.
Beyond film and TV, Kane lent his voice to video games. His credits include Call of Duty, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Marvel Future Revolution.
In 2020, Kane suffered a stroke that left him with significant damage to his speech center.
Tom Kane leaves behind his wife, Cindy, and their nine children, three biological and six adopted and fostered.
