JD Vance Says ‘Something Fishy’ May Be Happening With Ilhan Omar

The Trump administration just escalated its fight against a prominent Democratic congresswoman. The Vice President JD Vance’s claims about a federal investigation have thrust long-circulated allegations and a messy financial disclosure back into the spotlight.

JD Vance says DOJ is investigating Ilhan Omar

Vice President JD Vance claimed on Tuesday that the Department of Justice is actively investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar. He raised questions about immigration fraud and her family finances during a White House press conference, CBS Minnesota reported.

“We’re going to investigate it. We’re going to take a look at it,” Vance stated firmly. He added that the DOJ would prosecute if officials found evidence of a crime. However, Vance declined to share specifics about the apparent investigation’s scope or timeline. He also stated he did not want to “prejudge an investigation” at this early stage.

Still, he referenced longstanding rumors about Omar’s personal life and marital history. “You read the things about Ilhan Omar and about you know who she married,” Vance noted. He then added, “It certainly seems like something fishy is there.” Notably, no evidence currently supports claims that Omar committed immigration fraud.

Meanwhile, this announcement follows Omar’s recent decision to amend her financial disclosure forms significantly. Her original filing listed companies co-owned by her husband, Tim Mynett, as worth between $6 million and $30 million. The amended filing then reduced the couple’s joint assets to between $18,004 and $95,000. Mynett’s two companies received updated valuations of “none” in the revised documents.

Omar’s spokesperson attributed the discrepancy to an “accounting error created a misleading picture of far greater wealth.” The spokesperson also clarified that “the congresswoman is not a millionaire” despite the initial filing.

The sharp revision subsequently drew scrutiny from the Republican-led House Oversight Committee and President Trump. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer responded forcefully to the amended disclosure at that time. “Ilhan Omar’s multimillion-dollar financial disclosure revision is just the latest on a long list of her questionable actions,” Emmer said. He further warned, “She cannot escape accountability for long.”
