Donald Trump has made a bold claim about Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. The US president says the two leaders are aligned on Iran. Speaking to reporters at a Maryland airbase, Trump insisted that Netanyahu is fully on board with his approach to the ongoing war with Iran, dismissing any suggestion of a rift between the two leaders.
Donald Trump makes new remark about Israeli PM
Trump’s comments came after Israel’s Channel 12 reported a “lengthy and dramatic” phone call between the two leaders, linked to Trump’s decision to hold off on resuming military strikes against Tehran.
When asked whether he had given Netanyahu a timeline for resuming strikes against Iran, Trump said, “He’s a very good man, he’ll do whatever I want him to do. Don’t forget, he was a wartime prime minister.” Neither the White House nor Netanyahu’s office commented on what was discussed during the overnight call. However, reports suggest the two leaders were “on the verge of a decision” regarding the war’s next phase.
Earlier on, Trump revealed he had come close to abandoning his six-week ceasefire just a day prior. “I was an hour away from making the decision to go today,” he said, adding, “We may have to give them another big hit. I’m not sure yet. You’ll know very soon.” Trump also made clear he is in no rush to wrap up the conflict, telling reporters that achieving the mission’s objectives mattered more than any fixed timeline.
Iran, meanwhile, has not backed down. Parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Galibaf warned that “obvious and hidden moves by the enemy” signalled preparations for a new round of war. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also threatened that any resumed attacks would trigger a war stretching beyond the Middle East.
Both Trump and Netanyahu have stated that the war was launched to dismantle Iran’s nuclear programme, destroy its missile capabilities, cut off its support for regional militias, and create conditions for regime change (Source: New York Post).
