Radio Caroline mistakenly announced King Charles’ death, issued an apology
UK Radio Station, Radio Caroline, recently left its listeners in shock after mistakenly announcing on May 19 that King Charles III is dead. The usual broadcast stopped abruptly, prompting the host to say that the normal programming had been suspended “until further notice as a mark of respect following the passing of his majesty King Charles III.”
“This is Radio Caroline. His Majesty King Charles III has passed away. As a mark of respect, we will now be playing suitable continuous music until further notice,” mentioned the host before saying that even the “media” has confirmed the news. The station then played God Save the King, before the broadcast ceased for 15 minutes.
However, soon after realising the mistake, station manager Peter Moore apologized for the false news and blamed the mistake on a computer glitch. Moore wrote in a Facebook statement, “Due to a computer error at our main studio, the Death of a Monarch procedure, which all UK stations hold in readiness while hoping not to require, was accidentally activated on Tuesday afternoon (May 19), mistakenly announcing that HM the King had passed away.”
“Radio Caroline then fell silent as would be required, which alerted us to restore programming and issue an on-air apology,” stated Moore, further adding that, “We apologize to HM the King and to our listeners for any distress caused.”
Listeners immediately beelined to the comments of the post to share their relief that the news wasn’t true. Nevertheless, the monarch is hale and hearty as per the Mirror; he and Queen Camilla arrived in Belfast on their first visit to Northern Ireland on Tuesday, after spending the previous day at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show.
