Stephen Colbert Gets Grilled During ‘Questionert’ Segment on Late Show

The Late Show‘s Stephen Colbert fields tough questions from celebrities in the “Questionert” segment. The segment is known for disarming guests with fast, absurd, and personal questions. It took a final twist when Colbert stepped out from behind the desk and onto the hot seat himself.

On Wednesday’s second-to-last episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host finally turned his iconic “Colbert Questionert” on himself. The segment typically features Colbert posing 15 rapid-fire questions to guests. This time, with Colbert on the hot seat, he called on famous friends to fire the questions at him.

Former CBS Evening News anchor John Dickerson hosted the segment, introducing a parade of celebrity interrogators. Billy Crystal, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Josh Brolin, Martha Stewart, Mark Hamill, Jim Gaffigan, Jeff Daniels, Tiffany Haddish, Evie McGee Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Ben Stiller, Aubrey Plaza, James Taylor, Robert De Niro, and Dickerson himself each took a turn behind Colbert’s desk to dive “into the depths of Stephen Colbert,” as Dickerson put it.

The questions run the gamut from the trivial to the telling: What’s the best sandwich? First concert you attended? Scariest animal? Ever asked someone for an autograph? Favorite action movie? Window or aisle? Favorite smell? Cats or dogs? Favorite song and plenty more.

Fans flooded the Instagram post with bittersweet excitement. “Stephen Colbert is a National Treasure,” wrote a viewer. “Outstanding, He will be Missed,” commented another. “I’m forever grateful for Stephen and his many years of The Late Show,” echoed a fan. “I want to love this but I’m just sad,” read yet another comment.

The final broadcast of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs on Thursday, May 21.
