Donald Trump Says He Could ‘Run for Prime Minister’ In This Country

Donald Trump joked that he could be Israel’s next prime minister. The president commented while speaking to the press on Wednesday, May 20, at Joint Base Andrews, ahead of the United States Coast Guard Academy graduation. Trump stated that he is massively popular in Israel and “could run for prime minister” there.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Donald Trump said, “So maybe after I do this, I’ll go to Israel, run for prime minister. I had a poll this morning. I’m 99%, so that’s good.” It remains unclear which poll the POTUS is referring to, while the White House has not made any comments either.

Trump is a long-time supporter of Benjamin Netanyahu, the current prime minister of Israel. The ongoing conflict with Iran began with the joint airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel in February 2026. As the war enters its 12th week, the conflict remains at a fragile stalemate over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key geopolitical landmark in global oil supplies.

When reporters asked if Trump and Netanyahu had spoken about the current state of the war, the POTUS said, “He’s fine. He’s very, a very good man. He’ll do whatever I want him to do. And he’s a great guy. To me, he’s a great guy.”

Trump’s latest remarks come shortly after saying that he was “an hour away” from launching fresh military strikes on Iran. In a Tuesday Truth Social post, the president announced that he postponed the “scheduled attack” upon request of Middle Eastern leaders amid ongoing negotiations.

“We were all set to go,” Trump told reporters. “You’re talking about yesterday? We were going to be striking very… it would have been happening right now. Yeah, it was all done. The boats, the ships, were all loaded. They were all loaded to the brim, and we were all set to start,” he added.
