Donald Trump’s latest comments about extending his time as the President for a third term have spread over the internet like wildfire, drawing strong reactions from netizens across the nation. In a recent speech at the US Coast Guard Academy, he expressed his intentions to not only continue his ongoing spell in the Oval Office but also enter his name in the ballot for a third time.
Donald Trump made a third term comment at Coast Guard Academy
While delivering the keynote address, the POTUS made a remark that seemed to jeopardize a significant aspect of the American Constitution. He, once again, relayed that he wants to run for President for an unprecedented third time, when his current White House stint comes to an end in 2028.
“I’m gonna be here in ’28. Maybe I’ll be here in ’32 too,” Donald Trump said while talking to the 145th graduating class of 260 cadets at the US Coast Guard Academy’s Cadet Memorial Field, as per a clip shared by journalist Aaron Rupar. The statement came as a shock to many, as laws at present only allow a presidential candidate to serve two terms at most.
Despite the constitutional hiccup, this is not the first instance the 79-year-old politician has talked about breaking norms and entering the Oval Office a third time. While talking to NBC on March 30, 2025, he reiterated that he was “not joking” when he proposed the idea of undertaking a third presidential term.
Donald Trump insisted that there were “methods which you could do it” in the said phone interview, but took a step back by saying that “it is far too early to think about it.” Later in August, when asked about the plan, he replied, “No, probably not,” before adding, “I’d like to.”
Notably, Trump’s third-term comments come in the wake of his plummeting approval rating, especially regarding topics such as inflation and the Iran war.
