Stephen Colbert found it “pretty weird” what Donald Trump had to say about his wife, Melania Trump, over her recent achievements. This was followed by Colbert presenting a greeting card, aimed at mocking the political couple. These comments come amid Trump, who hosted the annual Congressional Picnic on the South Lawn of the White House, reflecting on Melania’s latest project before making a shocking comment about her outshining everyone in the family.
Stephen Colbert mocks Donald Trump for Melania comment
During an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the popular host reacted to Trump’s comments about Melania’s successes during the annual Congressional Picnic. He said, “It was a pretty weird thing to say to your wife.” He then showcased a funny greeting card that read, ” Roses are red. I love a Gardinia. Time for you to go back to Slovenia (via The Mirror).”
Colbert’s jab comes amid Trump, who recently reflected on his wife’s documentary and how it did well theatrically and on digital platforms. He said, “She did a movie, it became number one. She then went to streaming; it became number one.” While his comment was initially perceived as praise, it shortly took a surprising turn. He added, “And I say there’s only room, remember this, for one star in a family, so I better get rid of that.”
His remark appears to trace back to earlier this year, when he praised Melania for becoming a big movie star while also jokingly warning that two stars cannot exist in one family. He elaborated, “Big movie star. I always say it’s trouble, because I always say there’s not room in one family for two stars. I told her that we can’t have two stars in one family … The theaters are all packed. Women, especially, they go back, and they see it two or three times, four times.”
In reality, the Melania documentary turned out to be a huge box office bomb, earning around $16.7 million on a $40 million budget.
