Donald Trump’s Name Set to Feature on Major NYC Project, New Leaks Suggest

According to a recent leak, a specific part of Penn Station’s transformation is set to feature a presidential seal bearing Donald Trump’s name. The busy New York transit hub has often been criticized for looking dull and outdated; however, its new plans will reportedly give it a look inspired by the original station that was demolished in the 1960s. The leaked Trump’s name in the redesigned station is likely to spark yet another public debate, especially as he has long been criticized for using his branding on federal buildings.

Donald Trump’s name appears in leaked Penn Station renderings

Recently, the Gothamist obtained architectural renderings and engineering documents that disclosed the transformation plans for Penn Station. In the new plan, the ceilings have as much as 50 feet of overhead space and feature American flags across the entrance of the new train hall. It will also feature “gold-accented” railings, escalators, and columns. It will also add two brand-new entrances, one on Eighth Avenue and 31st Street. Among the leaked designs, what will most specifically spark debate is the president’s name carved on stone inside the station, where the Theater at Madison Square Garden currently is located.

Last month, a report suggested that Trump has set his eyes on renaming Penn Station after him. It was revealed that the president met Madison Square Garden boss James Dolan to discuss the name modification privately. Later, White House Spokesman Davis Ingle released a statement, which seemingly confirmed that a meeting did take place between the duo.

Ingle said, “President Trump is focused on saving our country—not garnering recognition. While we don’t comment on private meetings that may or may not have happened, President Trump undoubtedly supports a strong and revitalized Penn Station that can better serve New York and New Yorkers” (via Page Six). The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Amtrak earlier announced that Penn Transportation Partners has been chosen to look after the station’s $8 million project.
