After being accused of “queer-baiting” at the Southern Hospitality Season 4 reunion, one of Republic’s VIP hosts clarified his sexuality.
In a sneak peek of the June 10 reunion episode, host Andy Cohen questioned Justin Assada about previously claiming he was “30 percent gay.”
“I’m comfortable in my sexuality,” Justin, who’s currently dating Southern Charm star Charley Manley, shared. “That’s the bottom line … I objectively like what I like.”

“Now, have I exclusively been with women?” he continued. “Absolutely. [But] if there was a guy … that came and took me off my feet and was perfect in every way, then I would not have any hesitation moving forward with it. It’s sexuality. It’s fluid. That’s just me.”
According to Justin, living in the South, specifically Charleston, is “tough.” He definitely sympathizes the plight of his co-stars TJ Dinch, Lake Rucker, and Michols Peña, as well as other members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Charley and Justin reportedly began seeing each other in September 2025. When it comes to their relationship, the Republic newbie admitted that questions have definitely been brought up.
“It is, like, a tough spot, and I feel like I’ve had to answer to it,” he explained. “Even in my relationship with Charley now, it’s just, like, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.”
For a show that takes place in the more conservative South, you have to give Southern Hospitality’s producers credit. They’re featuring several sexually diverse people, while discussing sensitive issues openly and honestly. That’s something you don’t see every day on reality television. Well done, Bravo.
As Southern Hospitality’s Season 4 comes to a close, no announcement has been forthcoming about a possible Season 5.
