JD Vance Appears to Test Hosting Skills During Fox News Segment

JD Vance spent part of this week stepping into a moment that drew public attention. And that was auditioning for cable news. The Vice-President’s extended appearance on Fox News’ The Five quickly grabbed attention, with some viewers wondering whether they were watching a political interview or a trial run for a future hosting gig.

The appearance came during a busy media blitz for Vance, who has been promoting his new book, “Communion,” while also making rounds across multiple television programs. But it was his unusually hands-on role during the Fox News segment that sparked conversation online.

Fox News viewers debate whether JD Vance was testing out a future hosting role

Vance appeared alongside the regular panelists on The Five and was even introduced as a “co-host” on Instagram. During the hour-long appearance, he discussed topics ranging from Iran and White House policy to family life and parenting.

At one point, Vance introduced a segment about dad jokes after referencing a study suggesting corny humor can strengthen relationships between fathers and children.

“My favorite dad joke is actually one my son told to me — I want to know what yours are — but, what do you call a fly with no wings?” Vance asked. Then answered, “A walk.”

Fox News host Jesse Watters immediately replied, “OK, very good. That’s terrible!” Vance laughed and defended the joke, responding, “All dad jokes must be terrible.”

The segment only became more unusual moments later when Watters presented the panel with slices of pickle cake. Describing the dessert, Watters joked, “I was going to do fudge because it’s National Fudge Day, for the VP, but I thought it’d be too gay, so I did pickle cake instead.”

Beyond the lighthearted banter, Vance also addressed reports surrounding a potential Iran agreement. He insisted, “Not a single cent of American money under any circumstance, no matter what the Iranians do, goes to Iran.”

He added, “If the Iranians transform how they interact with the world, we will transform how the world economy interacts with Iran.”

The appearance quickly generated reactions online. California Governor Gavin Newsom mocked the segment on X by suggesting Vance would need television work because “he won’t be president” in 2029. Meanwhile, Democratic strategist Mike Nellis questioned why the vice president was co-hosting the program at all, writing, “Shouldn’t he have more important things to do!?”

Whether it was a serious media experiment or simply a promotional stop, Vance’s turn behind the desk certainly got people talking.
