Katy Perry recently discussed her upcoming single during an appearance on the Unfamous podcast with Justin Tranter, released on Wednesday, June 17. Speaking about “Watch It Burn,” which is scheduled for release on June 26, the singer said the track was inspired by painful experiences. The pop star said, “In Watch It Burn, I am wrestling with my darkness,” before admitting that she “don’t typically feel like a victim.”

“You can hear it in my songs. I don’t resonate with that. But last year was pretty tough, and it would have been easy for me to fall into that weird victim triangle,” she said in the interview. The “Roar” singer even revealed that she was ready to “feel this f—ing pain” and “anger” before moving on and learning from it. “Let’s get some feedback from it. Let’s apply it.” She added about the process, saying, “Let’s learn from it.”

Sharing more about the song, Perry explained that it has two parts. In the first part, she is “vocal enough to acknowledge” what she is going through. In the second part, she is “courageous enough to share it with the world,” according to PEOPLE. The singer even teased “Watch It Burn” on Instagram on Tuesday, June 16, with a video of her with a baseball bat.

Although Perry did not elaborate on what made the previous year so difficult, she ended her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom in 2025 after a relationship that lasted about a decade. The former couple shares a daughter, Daisy Dove.
