Meghan Markle’s $56 As Ever matcha recipe with jam has sparked backlash, with many online calling it “vile.” For those unfamiliar, As Ever is the Duchess of Sussex’s premium lifestyle and food brand. Users have criticized the flavor pairing, with some suggesting it doubles as a way to use her As Ever fruit spreads.
Meghan Markle’s new matcha collab gets roasted online
Meghan Markle’s $56 As Ever matcha suggestion drew heavy criticism online after she gave the trendy tea drink a jam-infused twist. The 44-year-old duchess launched a new “Strawberry Matcha Set,” urging customers to mix her signature fruit spread with Clevr Blends SuperLatte powder. She then suggested topping the drink with As Ever’s dried flower garnish, as per RadarOnline.
Markle priced the three-item set at $56 and shared several photos of the drink. She also posted a video showing ice poured into a tall glass, followed by large spoonfuls of As Ever strawberry spread. After adding milk and matcha, the drink looked unappetizing. Critics were quick to point out that jam and dried flower sprinkles aren’t typical matcha ingredients. They further noted that simple syrup or honey with real fruit is the usual choice.
Comments on X (formerly Twitter) flooded in, criticizing the unusual matcha recipe. “For Meghan Markels next trick, she’ll be claiming her cheap, nasty spread can be added to coffee for a fruity ‘kick’. This is just vile,” tweeted a user. “That drink looks like the Grench and Santa had a baby together. GROSS!!!” wrote another. “It looks absolutely disgusting,” bashed a third person. “Revolting, things must be getting very desperate!” read an X comment.
Markle appears to be clearing out large amounts of unsold As Ever stock. A January website glitch reportedly left tens of thousands of fruit spreads, which will expire in June 2027, and flower sprinkles in stock.
The Duchess of Sussex positioned the strawberry and raspberry spreads as Valentine’s Day gifts, complete with cocktail and mocktail recipes. After Netflix ended its consumer partnership with As Ever in March, Markle took full control of the remaining inventory. The streaming company returned the unsold stock, leaving her to sell the entire backlog herself.
