A Vanity Fair report details workplace allegations involving Alex Cooper’s Unwell Network and co-founder Matt Kaplan
Earlier this month, Vanity Fair published a report that cited 40 sources claiming Unwell Network has a toxic workspace. 30 sources, including former and current employees at her company, claimed that her husband, Matt Kaplan, creates a toxic work environment. One freelancer said, “It creates the most toxic work environment that I’ve ever seen.”
Another freelancer allegedly said, “Matt will scream the worst things and say the nastiest things to you, and Alex will be there next to him, not defending anyone.” Recently, Alix Earl parted ways with Unwell abruptly, which made these allegations related.
However, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Cooper denied all the allegations against her husband and her company. She said, “I will say that building a startup, there is so much growth that comes with that, and I am extremely proud of what we have built at Unwell. I will just kind of leave it at, ‘Don’t believe everything that you read on the internet.’ I think everyone knows that at this point.”
In further questions, she responded that “we have done so well with the company; if you walk around, so many people are happy working with them.” She called it a smear campaign for someone’s narrative.
Cooper is looking forward to leaving the controversy behind as she concluded: “I think the reason that I’ve had success in this industry is I have really thick skin, and I’m going to keep pushing forward.” While Cooper firmly denies all the allegations made, the Vanity Fair report sparked broader discussion about toxic workplace culture.
