The Great American State Fair was organized by Trump’s Freedom 250 group. Melania the cow emerges as an unlikely star amidst the many controversies surrounding the event. The cow, who seemingly had the same hair color as the First Lady. It was named Melania and paraded around the event. It drew the attention of many across the internet.

Future Farmers of America student Piper Stolipher explained the use of the name “Melania” at the fair. “We were trying to come up with patriotic names for the 250th year. “We came up with Melania, which is President Trump’s wife, and my teacher thought that they had a similar hair color, so it just fit,” she explained (via MSN). Stolipher also told The Washington Post, “We thought Melania would be a good idea because it’s the first lady’s name, and the hair colors kind of match.”

The cow became a rare unifying point across the fair. It has seen a lot of criticism. Despite the herculean effort behind the project, which is also one of the most ambitious ones under Donald Trump, the turnout at the fair was rather underwhelming. In fact, several states declined to participate altogether. They cited taxpayer costs, sponsorship challenges, and a mismatch of political views over the event.

The event emerged after months of friction between the White House and the congressionally chartered America250 commission (via The Daily Beast). The celebrations for America’s 250th Independence Day are in full swing now.
