Former singer and sex offender Gary Glitter has been newly charged with historic sex offence charges that date back to 1978.
The 82-year-old is already serving a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2015 of attempted rape, unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, and indecent assault.
Authorities say the allegations against Gary Glitter date from the late 1970s through 1981
According to Variety, the Metropolitan Police have now filed four more charges against the disgraced singer. One relates to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13. Three others are of indecent assault on a girl under 14.
The BBC reported that these incidents are alleged to have taken place between 1978 and 1981 at a residential address in the London neighborhood of Kensington. The allegations were first reported to the police in January 2025. The police interviewed him in jail thereafter.
Born Paul Gadd, the former singer and convicted child sex offender is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5.
In 2023, Glitter was placed on probation after serving half of his jail term, but he returned to prison the next month for violating his probation. His bid for parole was denied in June 2025.
Glitter is best known for the ’70s songs “Rock and Roll” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me.” However, his songs were removed from online platforms after his conviction.
He was first arrested in 1997 and convicted of possessing child pornography in 1999. After his release the next year, he fled the U.K. and eventually settled in Vietnam, where he ended up in jail on child sexual abuse charges. In 2008, he returned to the UK, only to be arrested again in 2012. That case resulted in his 2015 sentencing, which he is still serving.
DO YOU THINK THE NEW CHARGES WILL INCREASE GLITTER’S TROUBLES?
