Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding day kicked off with Prince William appearing on the New Heights podcast with Jason Kelce. The 44-year-old Prince of Wales joked that at times he wasn’t sure if the U.S. would reach its 250th birthday.
Prince William jokes there were times he wondered whether America would reach its 250th birthday
The royal guest appeared on New Heights on July 3, hours before the Swift and Kelce wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The episode, which was World Cup-themed, featured William discussing soccer throughout.
Jason asked during the conversation, “America is turning 250 years this year. Be honest—are you surprised we made it?” William laughed and replied, “There were times. Yeah, there were times,” reports People. He added that he hoped the U.K. and the U.S. would stay together for all 250 years, calling it “a good brotherhood.” Jason agreed, saying, “It has been a really good brotherhood.”
The exchange comes after the outlet reported that William and Kate Middleton will skip Swift and Kelce’s wedding, despite William being a friend of the pop star. According to People, William and Swift first crossed paths in 2013 at the Centrepoint Winter Whites Gala at Kensington Palace, joining Jon Bon Jovi onstage for a spontaneous rendition of Livin’ on a Prayer.
He also spent his 42nd birthday at Swift’s Eras Tour concert at Wembley Stadium in June 2024, bringing Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis along, and was seen dancing to Shake It Off. Following the concert, Swift posted a backstage selfie on Instagram featuring William, George, and Charlotte, and Travis was also pictured with the royal family.
According to Yahoo Entertainment, Swift also appeared on New Heights last year, where she said, “This podcast did a lot for me—it gave me a boyfriend!” Taylor and Travis, who announced their engagement in August 2025, will reportedly get married in front of 1,000 of their closest friends and family on July 3.
