Lena Dunham reportedly shocked guests at Taylor Swift’s wedding with NSFW joke
Lena Dunham had the audience divided at Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding festivities with an NSFW NFL joke. According to the Daily Mail, a day before the wedding, the couple hosted a fun, intimate rehearsal dinner. The ceremony was attended by 100 of their close friends and was held at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Reportedly, there were a lot of speeches at the star-studded affair. However, it was Dunham who stole the show with her blunt statement: “American football is just straight guys reenacting gay porn.” The statement was definitely one of the highlights of the night. According to an insider, the joke drew a ‘divided’ response of ‘gasps and laughs’ from guests at the event.
The NFL guests at the wedding included the groom’s brother, Jason Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, and former teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster. The couple’s close friends, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp, were also in attendance (via Entertainment Weekly).
The crude joke might have offended a certain section of guests. However, the bride, Swift, had a completely opposite reaction. The “Opalite” crooner reportedly hailed Dunham as a “genius” after her speech.
Notably, Swift and Dunham have been friends for over a decade. Dunham has always stood by the Grammy winner and publicly defended her. Swift returned the favor by serving as Dunham’s bridesmaid at her wedding in 2021.
As per a statement shared with PEOPLE, Taylor Swift ditched bridesmaids and instead had her brother, Austin Swift, as the “Man of the Honour.” Similarly, Travis Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, served as his “Best Man.” The wedding ceremony was officiated by Adam Sandler.
