Kirk Schwabe, Taylor Swift’s favourite teacher, reportedly died on her wedding day. Notably, Schwabe taught the pop icon criminal justice at Hendersonville High School in Nashville and later worked as her security guard. His family confirmed his death from cancer to The Telegraph.
Schwabe’s daughter, Sarah Gordon, disclosed that her father had been moved to hospice care after his health had “declined rapidly.” Gordon penned on Facebook: “Over the past several weeks, his health has declined rapidly and he has now been moved to hospice care. If you know my dad, you know he has poured his heart into everything he’s done. He has always loved teaching. He loves his students.”
Schwabe’s daughter shared a photo of her late father with the Grammy winner holding her first-ever eponymous album. Interestingly, prior to his death, he gave his blessings to the betrothed couple.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Schwabe said: “I do trust Taylor’s judgment. She knows what’s best.” Schwabe also recalled knowing very early on that Swift was a superstar in the making. He told the “Opalite” crooner: “I told her, you’re a superstar. This is not fun and games no more. You are it. Everything keeps going up and up and up, and the sky’s the limit for you.”
Schwabe left his job as Swift’s security guard after severe burnout, but that did not affect the love he had for the pop star. His family also shared that they were happy for Swift and Kelce and wished the couple happiness ahead of their wedding.
Swifties offered their condolences to Schwabe’s family online. One fan commented: “that’s genuinely heartbreaking. i’m glad he got to be part of such an important moment in her life before he passed.” A second fan wrote: “So sad to hear this. Kirk was a huge part of Taylor’s journey. Sending love and prayers to his family and Taylor on her wedding day.”
