The View host defended Armie Hammer after he said he was surprised by the finished version of Citizen Vigilante
The recent discussion on “The View” centered on Hammer’s response to the backlash he is receiving over the movie. Viewers are reportedly calling the movie “Anti-Immigrant, Anti-Islamophobic.” In response to these comments, Hammer stated that he was shocked by the final cut and did not sign up for this movie, according to The Wrap.
While the co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, questioned the actor, saying, “It’s not possible.” Goldberg, however, supported him. She said, “He is an actor, and that’s what we do, we play a problematic character.”
In support of the actor, she said, “I think it’s because, you know, I always say to you guys movies are often made in the cutting room.”
She also talked about the actor being out of work due to sexual assault allegations against him that might have led him to take the offer.
“And so, when people don’t hire you, and when you can’t get work, and make a living, you take whatever you can get. And he’s an actor! I, you know, having lived through this kind of insanity when someone decides that you said what the people said you said, and they cancel you, and it turns out that it didn’t happen that way, doesn’t matter! Because people have already made up their mind about you,” she added.
Citizen Vigilante is a movie directed by Uwe Boll starring Armie Hammer, based on the story of a man targeting immigrants. Soon after the release, the movie received backlash for its storyline. Citizen Vigilante went mainstream when Elon Musk promoted the movie on his X account, leading to a 28-hour free stream that gained an audience.
