One of Bachelor Nation’s most popular citizens is facing his biggest challenge yet. Bachelor in Paradise alum Joe Amabile has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Nicknamed Grocery Store Joe, viewers first met Joe on The Bachelorette Season 14 in 2018. Even though Becca Kufrin didn’t give him a rose and he went home the first night, TV audiences were charmed. Joe became a fan favorite, appearing on two seasons of Bachelor in Paradise, where he met his wife Serena Pitt. He even danced his way to the semi-finals on Dancing with the Stars Season 27, tying for 5th place.
On July 13, Joe posted a video to his Instagram, sharing details about his unexpected and frightening diagnosis.
Joe Amabile shares early-stage brain tumor diagnosis and surgery plans
“This past month has been a lot of ups and downs,” Joe wrote on his Instagram. “After multiple scans and MRIs, I have what looks to be an early stage brain tumor.”
Furthermore, Joe reported that his doctors found “a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma … So I now need to get brain surgery [in two weeks] to get it removed.”
Admitting it’s been “a wild couple of weeks,” he added that the tumor appears to be in its “early stages.” He added that he’s hopeful his doctors can “get it all,” and he’ll be just fine.
In the video’s caption, Joe continued, “I’m doing my best to stay positive during this time and am lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends.”
In 2021, Joe met his wife Serena when they both appeared on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7. They subsequently married in a court house wedding in 2022.
Of course, Serena was the first to post a comment on her husband’s video. “You’re so strong and we’re going to get through this together,” she wrote, including a heart emoji and adding, “I love you.”
