Meghan Markle’s Career Win Is Making Royal Fans Unhappy

Meghan Markle’s cooking show, With Love, Meghan, on Netflix earned its first and only Emmy nomination on Tuesday, July 14. For those unversed, Markle’s cooking show earned a Daytime Emmy nomination in the “Outstanding Lifestyle Series” category. Reportedly, this came months after the streaming platform canceled it. Although the former actress celebrated the Emmy nod on Instagram, it seems that fans are not too happy and have criticized her on X.

Meghan Markle faces backlash for Emmy nomination

Royal fans berated Meghan Markle over her Emmy nomination for her eponymous cooking show on Netflix. The Suits star celebrated the nomination by writing on Instagram: “A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on ‘With Love, Meghan’ on Netflix. We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!”

Markle may have removed the comments section on her Instagram, but the internet nonetheless had strong opinions about the Duchess of Sussex’s Emmy nomination. One user commented, “FYI: The Daytime Emmys aren’t as prestigious as the Emmys. And no, she did not receive a nomination; she nominated herself. lol.” A second user asked: “Can someone explain to me how a CANCELLED show was nominated for an Emmy?”

A third user wrote: “‘Outstanding Lifestyle Program’ — is this a joke? It was universally panned and cancelled by Netflix?” A fourth fan penned: “You make it sound like she has an actual EMMY nomination. She doesn’t. A Day Time TV Emmy nomination that you buy your nomination in is NOT an actual Emmy nomination. She paid for a place in a category her show isn’t actually in. Utter fail.”

A fifth fan chimed in: “You misspelled: Meghan bought herself an award nomination…” Finally, one fan shared: “Finally! Someone acknowledging the absurdity of yet another bogus award! The academy has lost all credibility.”

Markle’s series premiered on Netflix in March 2025, and the streaming platform canceled it earlier this year after two seasons. An industry source exclusively revealed to Page Six: “Her show did not go on, so it did not make sense to continue the partnership.”

However, a spokesperson for Netflix shared with the outlet: “Meghan’s passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life.”
