“The Odyssey” star Zendaya opened up about wanting to take a break following one of the busiest times in her career.
The actress made the comments while promoting The Odyssey in New York City. She also spoke about her reunion with Tom Holland on screen and how joining “Shrek 5” was an easy decision.
Zendaya said she plans to ‘disappear for a little bit’ after a hectic year
The Emmy Award winner told Entertainment Tonight that she is looking forward to wrapping up a whirlwind year that included five major projects. Zendaya answered the question of what she would do during the break with a smart quip. The actress said, “Oh girl, nothing, just mind my business, you know, and stay to myself.”
Zendaya also said that while she is deeply grateful for the opportunities she attracts, the nature of her work, which involves heavy travel and promotions, may become too overwhelming at times. She said, “This is such a whirlwind, and you’re kind of in a new place every second… I’m grateful, and I wouldn’t change a thing, but sometimes you need to just… disappear for a little bit.”
The actress also stressed that she is thankful for the support she gets from close family and friends. “I feel really lucky that I have such an incredible support system,” she said, adding that having people she can call “no matter what, any time of the day” means everything to her.
She also clarified her decision to take up a role in “Shrek 5”. “I’m a fan, okay?” she said. “When I got that call that was a very quick yes because I grew up with those movies… they’re like my favorite movies. I watch them all the time. It’s like my comfort.”
Zendaya’s comments shortly follow her marriage to Tom Holland while promoting Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The couple, who first met while filming “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, have largely kept their relationship private despite years of public interest.
In The Odyssey, Zendaya portrays Athena, the goddess who guides Odysseus throughout his journey, while Holland plays Telemachus, the hero’s son. The film marks another on-screen collaboration for the couple after the Spider-Man franchise.
Fans have reacted enthusiastically to Zendaya’s interview. One celebrated her achievements, saying, “Tom and Zendaya 4EVA! Plus, congratulations to Z on her role as Felicia in Shrek 5!” while another noted how badly she needs a break, saying, She absolutely deserves a break cause she did 1. The Drama 2. Euphoria 3. Though Zendaya did not reveal any details about the break, her comments suggest that after a phase of choc-a-bloc filming and exhaustive global promotional tours, the actress is ready to hang up her boots for some well-deserved rest.
