Meghan Markle reportedly struggled while Prince Harry returned to the UK
As per PEOPLE, Meghan Markle was sad about not being able to stay by Prince Harry’s side during his public engagements in the UK. Markle reportedly could not accompany Harry due to security and accommodation concerns. Royal editor Russell Myers said, “There were U-turns and backtracks, and it will have all added to the complete exasperation of the King and his aides when dealing with Harry.”
Myers continued, “What was billed as a big homecoming—not only for Harry but potentially for Meghan too—turned into a nightmare. It was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution.” A source close to the Sussexes said that behind the scenes, the drama surrounding the tour was “quite stressful.” Another source commented, “This is not the first time it has not been plain sailing with correspondence or trying to make things work.”
They continued, “It all comes back to security. If that was resolved, there would be so much more certainty every time he comes—or they come.” Moreover, for Markle, the turmoil was reportedly painful as she expected to spend the week alongside the Duke. A source who knows the couple said the “Suits” alum would have felt “humiliated” watching the public back-and-forth.
Another source explained that Markle “is very supportive” of Harry. “There’s a lot of sadness” over how things went down, especially as Markle could not accompany her husband. However, another insider said that when it comes to the prince’s dealings with his family, “she always lets him lead.”
