Meghan Markle Can’t Escape the ‘Duchess’ Title For One Major Reason — Expert

Meghan Markle’s former friend revealed that she cannot break free from her Duchess title even if she wants to. The Suits star’s former friend and brand expert Nick Ede has shared that her royal title, the Duchess of Sussex, is an integral part of her identity and that she should learn to embrace it. For those unversed, the Sussexes stepped down as working royals in 2020; however, they retained their royal titles.

Meghan Markle’s former friend Nick Ede suggests the former actress lean into her royal title rather than shun it. For context, the Suits star appeared on MasterChef Australia’s Sunday, July 26 episode as a celebrity guest (via PEOPLE). Judge Poh Ling Yeow announced: “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before, but nothing like this. All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia…the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!”

Several outlets reported that Markle was uncomfortable being addressed as the Duchess. In fact, when Judge Yeow clarified: “Do we call you Duchess?” she replied: “Oh, call me Meghan.”

In a conversation with Cafe Casino, Ede urged Markle to acknowledge her royal title and not try to escape it. He remarked: “I think she’ll always be seen as a duchess, and no matter how she tries to distance herself from it, it’s part of her brand now. I think she wants to be more relatable, but being a judge on any show always relies on your elevated expertise or prestige. So, I think it’s better to lean into it rather than distance.”

Furthermore, Ede dished that “unfortunately” there is no way to change people’s perception of her. Hence, “it is best for her to get on with living her life fully and ignore the negativity.”

Previously, a news outlet had reported that Markle was “frustrated” at being branded as royalty on the show. However, a source close to the Duchess squashed the rumors, stating: “Meghan and the MasterChef judges had a great time on set together. They immediately had such a great rapport and had a really fun time working with the contestants and crew as well. Meghan left the set that day with such a positive experience. Any reporting otherwise is false.”
