President Donald Trump has commented on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. His remarks come a day after her daughter’s public plea. Authorities received a report on February 1 that Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was missing from her Tucson, Arizona-area home. Investigators have not identified any suspects in the six-month-old case.

A reporter asked Trump on Sunday whether it was “time for the FBI to get involved” in the case. “Well, they are involved to an extent, but as you know, the local community really runs those things,” Trump responded.
He continued, “Some people haven’t liked the way the local community’s run it. They haven’t liked the way the sheriff’s run it. But we would like to give them the benefit… but we’re there anytime they need us. It’s a terrible thing.”
Donald Trump’s remarks come amid an ongoing dispute between FBI Director Kash Patel and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. Patel alleged in June that local officials kept the FBI out during the search’s earliest and most important days, which he said wasted precious time.
“We showed up immediately and offered our assistance. We were not let in for four days. And that’s their choice,” Patel told NewsNation. He had made a similar claim in May while appearing on Sean Hannity’s podcast. Nanos pushed back on this version of events last week. Speaking to The Sharpe Exchange, he called Patel “misinformed” and said, “That’s just not even accurate. They were there from day one, just as my team was.”
Moreover, Nanos described the investigation as “very active” on Sunday, noting that authorities have received “tens of thousands of tips.” He described his working relationship with the FBI as “good,” citing years of collaboration through the Southern Arizona Violent Crime Task Force. Also, he offered assurance to the Guthrie family that the search would continue: “We’re still here. We are not going away.”
Savannah Guthrie shared a heartfelt post about her mother on Saturday, “Six months ago, someone took her out of her bed in the dead of night. We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since.” A reward of $1.2 million is still being offered for information that helps locate Nancy Guthrie or identify those responsible for her disappearance.
