Stephen Colbert’s Daughter Departs ’60 Minutes’ as CBS Restructuring Continues

Stephen Colberts daughter, Madeleine Carlisle, has reportedly left her role at 60 Minutes. The associate producer’s departure comes as CBS continues reshaping the long-running newsmagazine. Carlisle has not publicly explained her decision. Her exit also has not been linked to the cancellation of her father’s late-night show or any specific newsroom dispute.

Madeleine Carlisle’s reported departure follows months of newsroom changes at CBS

Carlisle recently resigned after working as a 60 Minutes associate producer since November 2022, according to RadarOnline, citing media newsletter Status. The original report described her as “well-regarded” and said she submitted her notice within the past few days.

CBS and Carlisle declined to comment on the reported departure. The network’s June staff directory still listed her among the program’s associate producers, but CBS had not publicly announced her exit as of publication.

Before joining the show full time, Carlisle completed a three-month 60 Minutes internship in 2017. She later worked at The Atlantic and Time, building a journalism career separate from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Her departure arrives during a broader overhaul at the CBS newsmagazine. CBS named journalist and filmmaker Nick Bilton executive producer in May, replacing Tanya Simon as the network pursued what it called a new approach for the show.

The leadership change followed months of internal tension and several high-profile exits. Staffers reportedly clashed over Bari Weiss’ direction for the program, while insiders later claimed the newsroom had split over the show’s new editorial course.

Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega were among the veteran journalists who departed amid the shake-up. Anderson Cooper also ended his nearly 20-year association with the program, although he cited a desire to spend more time with his family.

Carlisle’s reported resignation follows CBS’ decision to end The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The program aired its final episode in May, closing Colbert’s 11-season run at the network. No report has tied Carlisle’s decision to her father’s departure or identified the reason she left. For now, her exit remains one more reported change as CBS prepares 60 Minutes for its 59th season.
