Howard Stern’s workplace culture faced fresh scrutiny after insiders described unusual rules around the radio star. Staff members allegedly received warnings before company gatherings about approaching Stern directly.

Multiple insiders told The U.S. Sun that staffers faced strict expectations around Stern, 72. One source claimed employees received warnings before company parties.
“People were warned before any company parties not to speak to Howard,” the insider alleged. The source added that employees had “actually gotten fired for it.”
Stern had reportedly addressed similar rumors previously and denied any order against speaking with him. However, the insider claimed those warnings continued despite his response.
Another source described the atmosphere inside Stern’s New York SiriusXM operation as “cultish.” The insider claimed employees constantly sought Stern’s approval.
“All of these men [who work for Stern] are so desperate for Howard’s attention,” the source alleged, according to The U.S. Sun. The insider compared that dynamic to people seeking “Daddy’s approval.”
The source also described the office as filled with Stern photographs. Employees reportedly greeted each other with Stern’s signature “Hey now, hey now.”
“Once you step back, you see it as something else,” the insider said.
A second source agreed that the environment could feel like a cult, particularly from an outsider’s perspective. The insider suggested employees naturally wanted to please someone who controlled their workplace.
The claims arrived amid wider turmoil surrounding The Howard Stern Show.
Stern had renewed his SiriusXM contract in December, but major staff cuts reportedly followed. Sources previously claimed at least 40 employees lost their jobs during February’s layoffs.
Another round reportedly eliminated 16 positions in July, including at least five on-air personalities. Some departing employees also reportedly struggled with SiriusXM over severance packages.
The shake-up came after Stern announced plans for a reduced schedule. He was expected to return from his summer break in September with just one live broadcast each week.
Listeners reportedly reacted angrily, with some threatening to cancel SiriusXM subscriptions.
Meanwhile, Stern’s wife Beth defended him while discussing his animal rescue work with Bella. “He makes everything in my life good,” she said.
