As Queen Camilla heads off on a vacation with friends, palace insiders believe it could present an opportunity for Prince Harry. They suggest that Camilla leaving King Charles at Balmoral may create more breathing room around him. Without his wife’s influence, they believe the King may be more open to reconnecting with his younger son if Harry reaches out during that time.
The general consensus among the insiders is that Prince Harry is well aware of his father’s soft spot for him. “Harry knows exactly when his father is most vulnerable,” a palace source told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice. “Camilla being away removes one of the strongest voices telling Charles to think carefully before responding.”
“Harry understands his father emotionally,” the source said. “He knows Charles misses him, and he knows that underneath all the anger, the King wants his son back.”
The rift between the Sussexes and the royal family began after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Their move to California was widely seen as a major turning point in their relationship with the royal family.
