Meghan Markle avoided much of the public spotlight during her latest UK return. However, experts believe that strategy may not work during the major events ahead. With Prince Harry’s Invictus Games returning to Britain and Princess Diana’s 30th death anniversary approaching, Markle could once again become a major focus of public attention. According to one royal expert, that visibility could come with a “price” she must be prepared to accept.

Meghan Markle kept a notably low profile during her return to the UK last month. She reportedly traveled with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a much-awaited reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House. The family is also said to have visited Princess Diana’s grave before spending time together in Scotland.
For the most part, the trip remained private. Markle did, however, share a photograph of Harry and the children presumably carrying flowers to Diana’s resting place. Reports also suggest that at least part of the emotional visit could feature in a future Netflix documentary.
Her next UK appearances could be very different, though. Two major occasions are approaching in 2027. The Invictus Games will take place in Birmingham next summer. Then, on August 31, the world will mark 30 years since Princess Diana’s death. Both events are expected to attract significant public and media attention.
Understandably, that could put Markle under a much brighter spotlight. Royal commentator Jennie Bond believes the Duchess will have to prepare for criticism if she chooses to attend.
Speaking to New! magazine, Bond said Markle “sharply divides opinion” in the UK (via Express Online). She also claimed Markle is likely aware of the reaction that could follow a public appearance. According to Bond, many people in Britain hold her responsible for the rift between Harry and his family. Social media could therefore bring another layer of scrutiny.
“There’s no getting away from the fact that Meghan sharply divides opinion in this country,” Bond said. She added that Markle would need to accept the possibility of criticism and trolling if she decides to return for the events. In Bond’s view, that could be the “price” Markle must be willing to pay for supporting Harry publicly.
Psychotherapist Susie Masterson also warned that the upcoming events could be personally challenging. She suggested Markle would need strong boundaries to handle situations she may find uncomfortable. “2027 takes things to the next level,” Masterson said when discussing the pressure facing the Sussexes.
