It’s been understood that Prince Harry has moved Princess Diana’s memorial fund money away from Sentebale charity. His share is now being directed to an elephant conservation charity in Botswana, according to a recent report.
The change follows the Duke’s public fallout with Sentebale and its former chairman, Sophie Chandauka. Meanwhile, the new recipient has a personal connection to Harry that stretches back more than two decades.
Prince Harry reportedly switches Princess Diana’s memorial funds from Sentebale to elephant charity
As noted by The Telegraph, Prince Harry has chosen Elephants Without Borders as the new recipient of his share of income from the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. Reportedly, the Botswana-based conservation group has a longstanding connection to the Duke and his family.
For years, Harry is said to have directed the annual proceeds from his share to Sentebale. He established the charity with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 in memory of their late mothers. The organization works with vulnerable children and young people in southern Africa, including those affected by HIV/AIDS.
That arrangement changed after a major dispute at Sentebale. In 2025, Harry and Seeiso stepped down as patrons alongside several trustees following an internal conflict involving then-chair Sophie Chandauka. The dispute later played out publicly, with the Charity Commission finding governance weaknesses and criticizing the way the conflict had been handled.
Now, the latest financial figures show where Harry’s portion of the Diana fund went. Sentebale received £43,866 from his share between 2020 and 2024. Its final payment was £16,743 in 2024, according to the outlet’s report.
In 2025, however, Harry’s share was allegedly £5,432. That amount went to Elephants Without Borders instead. The accounts state that, at Harry’s request, his portion of the fund would be “donated to a charity of The Duke’s choosing.” For that year, the organization named was Elephants Without Borders.
The choice appears closely linked to Harry’s personal history with Botswana. He has known the conservation charity’s founder, Dr. Mike Chase, for more than two decades. The pair have worked together on elephant conservation projects, and Chase has reportedly been part of Harry’s close circle in Africa.
The Diana Memorial Fund was established after the princess’s death in 1997 and closed in 2012. Its remaining assets are now managed by The Royal Foundation, with income from the fund divided between Harry and his brother, Prince William.
