Donald Trump’s close relationship with aide Natalie Harp reportedly created fresh tension with Melania Trump. Biographer Michael Wolff claimed Harp’s constant presence around Trump contributed to Melania’s limited public appearances. The claims added another layer to scrutiny surrounding the Trump marriage during his second administration.

In his Substack newsletter HOWL, Wolff examined Trump’s relationships and inner circle. He claimed Melania carefully negotiated appearances with her husband and avoided events when Harp accompanied Trump.
“Melania, whose appearances with her husband were carefully negotiated and choreographed, would not show up if Harp was around,” Wolff wrote. “Since Harp was always around, Melania never was—appearing with her husband only in the last week of the campaign.”
The Daily Beast reported that Melania appeared publicly 47 times during 2025. She appeared publicly on 38 days during the first seven months of 2026.
Wolff also described Harp’s reported efforts to remain close to Trump. He claimed she slept in the maids’ quarters during Trump’s 2023 stay at Bedminster.
Wolff alleged Harp later moved into the women’s locker room to stay closer to Trump. He wrote, “Harp superseded the White House staff and, as well, his wife and family.”
He continued, “Nobody got between Harp and Trump. And you only got to Trump by going through Harp.”
Wolff also referenced Regime Change, written by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan. The book reportedly described letters Harp allegedly left inside Trump’s personal spaces.
One letter reportedly read, “You are all that matters to me.”
The reports did not allege a sexual relationship between Trump and Harp. Wolff instead claimed some people around Trump viewed Harp as “hopelessly in love” with him.
He also described the alleged dynamic as a “Christian devotional relationship.” One Trump aide reportedly used that phrase while speaking with Wolff.
The White House strongly rejected Wolff’s claims. Spokesman Davis Ingle told the Daily Beast, “Michael Wolff is a professional scumbag and serial liar with s— for brains.”
