Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly used “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” during early romantic getaways. The Prince of Wales and his future wife were still trying to protect their privacy. Long before their royal titles, the couple used more than one secret identity while dating. A new report linked those names to hotels, university life, and a Seychelles trip that later gained extra meaning.
Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly used different names on romantic getaways
According to a HOLA report, the claim came from Robert Jobson’s 2024 biography. The book, “Catherine, the Princess of Wales,” revisited the couple’s early romance. Jobson wrote that William often took Catherine to Highgrove, Sandringham, or Balmoral. He added they sometimes checked into hotels as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” However, Jobson said the alias “doubtless fooled no one.”
Meanwhile, the report said Prince William had another secret identity at St Andrews. When he arrived at the university in 2001, he reportedly used “Steve.” Jobson called it “a rather pathetic attempt” to stay under the radar. Middleton reportedly played along during those years. She sometimes referred to him by the fake name. Their friendship then developed into a relationship while they studied in Scotland.
Still, the most meaningful alias came after their brief 2007 breakup. HOLA cited Andrew Morton’s 2011 biography, “William and Catherine.” Morton wrote that the couple visited Desroches in the Seychelles as “Martin and Rose Middleton.” He said they spent a week there “renewing their love affair.” For context, William proposed in Kenya in 2010.
The couple married at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. They later returned to the Seychelles for their honeymoon. The report also said they used “Danny Collins” and “Daphne Clark” for security travel. For Prince William and Kate Middleton, each secret identity marked a private chapter before public royal life.
