According to TMZ, Lowe discussed his childhood during an episode of his “Literally!” podcast with Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey asked the actor what affected him deeply during his early years. Lowe said people considered him “pretty” as a child. He said that the attention resulted in bullying.

Lowe said the bullying had a strong effect on him. He also recalled people using insulting and explicit language toward him. The actor said he absorbed many of the slurs he heard during childhood. Those experiences stayed with him throughout his life.

Lowe also explained why he rarely discusses difficult experiences. He said he follows a “never complain, never explain” mindset that he developed during childhood. As a result, he does not often open up about his past.

The actor also pointed out how different life could have been with social media. Lowe said today’s children have online platforms where they can talk about bullying. He did not have that option while growing up in the 1960s and 1970s. Instead, he kept many of those experiences to himself.

Lowe’s conversation with Winfrey offered insight into how his childhood shaped him. He explained that being called “pretty” did not feel like a compliment. Instead, the attention brought unwanted comments and bullying. His story also showed how deeply those early experiences affected him.
