The Emmy-nominated host Ariana Madix has one big rule as the host of Love Island USA. The rule is: the Islanders cannot know what she knows. The Islanders may try to decode every smile and reaction, but Madix has learned to keep her secrets locked down.
Ariana Madix reveals why she had to keep Love Island USA footage hidden from the Islanders
As Vulture covers, Madix said she never gives the Islanders clues about what is happening outside the Villa. She said, “Even though I’ve seen footage that may change their minds, I cannot and don’t let them know even an inkling of what that might be.”
She explained that she cannot reveal what is happening online. That can sometimes put her in an awkward position. Madix may know that viewers have strong opinions about certain Islanders, but she still has to support them in the moment.
“In moments like that, I have to be as impartial as possible,” she said. “I remind myself that, while I may disagree with how someone has done something in the Villa, it’s a very difficult situation to be in and that they are trying their best.”
The Islanders do try to read her reactions, though.
“I can sense sometimes that they’re trying to read my facial expressions, trying to get a little something,” Madix admitted. “Sometimes I do try to telepathically send them signals of what I know. But the poker face is working because I don’t think they’ve got it yet.”
Madix also said hosting the show has allowed her to show a happier side of herself than viewers saw on Vanderpump Rules.
“So much life has been lived between those two versions of myself,” Madix said. “I’m able to feel and express joy on Love Island.” Then she added, “I don’t think that I was really doing that on Pump Rules.”
Her work on the dating show recently earned her an Emmy nomination, marking another major step in her career.
