KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza Takes Drastic Step During Hiatus as Mom Speaks Out

Sophia Laforteza has been spending her KATSEYE hiatus away from promotional activities with a quieter routine focused on her well-being.

Her mother, theater actress Carla Guevara-Laforteza, recently shared how the KATSEYE leader has been using her time off. Sophia stepped back from the group earlier in August after receiving medical guidance to take an extended break.

Carla discussed her daughter’s current routine in an interview with Vogue Philippines published August 24. She said Sophia has turned to activities including baking, painting and trips to Disneyland during her break.

“At present, Sophia is on hiatus,” Carla said. “She goes to Disneyland every day; she’s baking, she’s painting. She’s literally doing everything to get mentally well.”

HYBE x Geffen announced the Sophia Laforteza hiatus on August 7. The company said the singer would temporarily stop participating in promotional activities to focus on her mental health and wellness.

Sophia had already been receiving support before the announcement. After consulting medical professionals, she was advised to continue receiving care and take additional time to rest. Her condition is expected to undergo another assessment in September.

Sophia also addressed her decision with fans through an Instagram Story. She acknowledged that stepping away from KATSEYE was difficult but wrote that “health has to come first.” She said caring for her mind and body was necessary if she wanted to continue doing what she loved in the future.

Carla said her approach as a parent involved allowing her children to decide their own paths.

“I realized that my children, they need to find their own destiny,” she said.

Before joining KATSEYE, Sophia had appeared headed toward theater like her mother. She instead pursued music and eventually became the leader of the group formed through The Debut: Dream Academy.

Sophia’s break followed fellow member Manon Bannerman’s decision to step away from group activities in February for her own health and well-being. The other members have continued promoting KATSEYE’s music during their absences.
