Elle Fanning’s Lacy Valentino Gown Goes Fully See-Through up Top for EW

Elle Fanning went deep into the fashion archives for a haunting new shoot tied to “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”. The actress appeared in a theatrical lacy see-through gown for Entertainment Weekly. She perfectly embraced the dark aesthetic of the upcoming film while posing in the vintage Valentino creation that dates back more than three decades.

Elle Fanning’s gown came from Valentino’s Fall/Winter 1993 runway collection, according to vintage fashion account Raffe Vintage. The dramatic black design featured a fitted bodice before opening into an enormous, voluminous skirt. But it was the top of the gown that delivered its most daring detail.

Intricate black lace stretched from Fanning’s chest to her high neckline and was completely see-through. This left the skin underneath visible through its ornate floral pattern. The delicate lace extended over her shoulders in tiny cap sleeves, creating a sharp contrast with the opaque black bodice below.

Fanning appeared to wear a statement pendant over the sheer panel, drawing even more attention to the intricate detailing. The actress completed the gothic look with an enormous black headpiece. Feathers fanned high above her head in different directions, giving the archival gown an even more dramatic silhouette. Her blonde hair was swept into an updo beneath the headpiece. Loose strands framed her face, while her makeup remained relatively understated.

The shoot’s eerie setting played into the fashion. Fanning was photographed against a stormy, almost surreal backdrop, with black birds appearing around her in one image. Other shots placed her alongside her co-stars in an elaborate group portrait for Entertainment Weekly. The cast members were dressed in black, with Fanning standing toward the back in her towering headpiece and Valentino skirt.

The styling makes the vintage piece feel particularly on point in the world of “The Hunger Games”, where extravagant fashion has been part of the franchise’s visual identity.
