Prince George’s move to Eton apparently has his parents feeling very differently. Prince William is said to be confident that boarding school will prepare his eldest son for greater independence. Kate Middleton, however, allegedly has more reservations about the change. According to an insider, the couple has spent considerable time talking George through his new school and what he can expect. The move could also bring a noticeable change to family life, with George no longer at home every day.
Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly brace for Prince George’s Eton move
A Star Magazine report suggested that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been spending “many hours” preparing Prince George for his next chapter. The 13-year-old is reportedly due to begin at Eton College on September 8. The school is in Windsor, close to the family’s Forest Lodge home.
The decision was announced in June after months of speculation about George’s secondary education. Eton is an all-boys boarding school with students aged 13 to 18. It has also been attended by William and his brother, Prince Harry.
For Middleton, however, the choice has seemingly been difficult. A source claimed she would have preferred George to attend a day school instead. In fact, she is said to be “struggling” with the idea that her eldest child will no longer be home every day. “It’s definitely a bittersweet situation,” the insider told the publication.
William, meanwhile, is said to have a different view. According to the source, he strongly believes boarding school will help George become more independent. He also has personal experience with Eton and has previously spoken positively about his time there.
The Prince of Wales supposedly sees that experience as something George can benefit from, too. “He regularly reminds Kate that George won’t be far away, and that they’ll still see him frequently,” the insider added.
Still, the transition comes with practical challenges. As per the report, William and Middleton have been talking George through what life at the school may be like. They have reportedly offered advice on everything from his studies to dealing with teasing or difficult situations. “William’s the perfect person to advise George,” the source claimed. They added the young prince may need to “stand his ground” if older students try to provoke him.
There are also extra security considerations because of George’s position as second in line to the throne. Reports claim the school has introduced photography restrictions ahead of his arrival, while he is expected to have round-the-clock police protection.
Before the move, the family may even hold a small farewell celebration. One source claimed everyone will want to “see George off in style.” For the Waleses, that could make an already emotional milestone feel even more significant.
