Luke Evans is remembering Tim Curry with a letter he wrote before the actor’s death. Evans recently played Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the role Curry made famous in The Rocky Horror Show. Curry died at his Los Angeles home on Aug. 25 at age 80. Evans shared the letter on Instagram.

Evans played Frank-N-Furter in the 2026 Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54. His run lasted from March through August and earned him a Tony nomination. Evans stated that Curry was a part of his journey throughout the production. He called Curry “a force, a bright fierce flame” and an inspiration to many.
In the letter, Evans said he wrote to Curry three weeks before his run ended. He said every actor who plays Frank enters a conversation that started with Curry. Evans called those comparisons one of the greatest compliments he could receive. Still, he said nobody could live up to Curry’s original performance.
Evans also said he never wanted to copy Curry’s work. He hoped to honor the character while finding his own way through the role. “There is, and always will be, only one Tim Curry,” Evans wrote. He thanked Curry for his fearless performance and for inspiring actors to become braver.
The actor ended his letter with a personal message about his final weeks as Frank. Evans said he had three weeks left before he would “hang up the fishnets and heels.” He then hoped Curry would approve of “one more Frank having the time of his life in those heels.” Evans signed the letter with “enormous admiration.”
Curry became a star through Frank-N-Furter and earned praise for roles in It and Clue. He also made movies and television appearances throughout his career. His death brought tributes from Evans and many other stars. Evans’ letter now offers a touching look at the respect he held for the actor who created the iconic role.
