President Donald Trump has been making headlines lately, not only because of his U.S. presidency but also for his bold statements. Now, another statement from the president is drawing attention, with what appears to be a plea to MAGA supporters ahead of a major challenge in the upcoming midterm elections.
Trump says MAGA voters need to turn out even when he is not on the ballot
Recently, the U.S. president visited the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, where Donald Trump made a passionate plea to Republican voters to support Sen. Darline Graham and turn out for the midterm elections. He urged South Carolina Republicans to vote for Graham in the GOP Senate runoff, even telling supporters to “pretend” he was on the ballot to encourage turnout.
Trump said, “The problem that we have is they say that Trump does great when he’s on the ballot. But when he’s not on the ballot, his people don’t come, and they don’t vote for senators, congressmen and other Republicans.”
“So, what I really want you to do is pretend, please, that I’m on the ballot,” he added
This is not the first time the U.S. president has made a MAGA plea. Donald Trump began using the “Make America Great Again” phrase prominently after the 2012 election and filed a trademark application for it that November. He later turned MAGA into a central part of his 2016 campaign and continued using the slogan and brand during his 2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns.
As for Donald Trump, he is also facing a high-stakes trade dispute with Canada. The president has escalated tensions by announcing that tariffs on Canadian-made cars, trucks, automotive parts and steel will rise to 50% from January 1, 2027. The move comes after U.S.-Canada trade talks broke down and has added further pressure to the already tense relationship between the two countries.
